CM Revanth Reddy: Make arguments to get our share - CM Revanth's key instructions on Krishna and Godavari waters
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has made it clear to the officials that Telangana should get its share in Krishna and Godavari River waters. He has ordered them to make effective arguments before the tribunal without causing any damage to the interests of the state. He has directed them to keep all the necessary evidence ready for that.
Make arguments to get our share
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has instructed the officials
that Telangana's interests in Krishna and Godavari River waters should not be
harmed in any way. They should be ready to get their due share. He has advised
them to make effective arguments before the tribunal.
On Saturday, CM Revanth Reddy reviewed the irrigation
projects and the latest situation with Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy,
senior officials of the department and legal experts. They discussed the
irrigation situation in the state, the inter-state disputes over
Krishna-Godavari waters, and the strategies to be followed by the state
government regarding the distribution of water shares at length and made
several suggestions.
CM Revanth ordered the states to prepare the necessary
detailed information to present their arguments before the Brijesh Kumar
Tribunal soon on the water shares and project-wise water allocations between
Andhra and Telangana as per the State Reorganization Act. He said that 70
percent of the Krishna River basin is in Telangana... and only 30 percent in
AP. He suggested that arguments should be made so that Telangana gets 70
percent of the water share out of 1005 TMC according to the same ratio.
Chief Minister Revanth's key suggestions:
80 TMC of Godavari waters are being used for the AP Krishna
Delta through Polavaram. Instead, a plan should be implemented to utilize that
water share through upstream projects, reminding that Telangana has 45 TMC of
water allocation upstream of Nagarjunasagar.
Arguments should be made in the Supreme Court that there
should be no interference by the Krishna River Management Board and Godavari
River Management Board until the tribunal completes the distribution of water
shares.
In the case of Andhra Pradesh transferring more water than
its quota in Krishna waters through various projects, the flow of water should
be monitored through telemetry to scientifically calculate it.
To avoid injustice in water use, a calculation should be
made of how much water each state uses through all the projects on Krishna.
All the details of how much water is being transferred from
Srisailam, Pothireddypadu, Bankancherla Head Regulatory, Telugu Ganga, KC
Canal, Handri Niva, Galeru Nagari, and Velugodu projects should be recorded.
Necessary permissions should be obtained for Sitarama
Project and Sammakka Barrage. "All the necessary work should be undertaken
urgently to irrigate the entire ayacut. In order to effectively argue the case
on all platforms regarding Telangana projects and water shares, a comprehensive
report should be prepared on the orders, memos, DPRs of projects issued in the
joint state, as well as the losses incurred by the state in water shares since
then, in addition to the GVOs and judgments issued since 2014," Chief
Minister Revanth Reddy clarified.
