Special drives on mid-day meal food quality in schools
It is known that a series of food poisoning incidents are
causing a stir in government high schools and gurukuls in Telangana. On the
29th of last month, a student named Shailaja lost her life in a food poisoning
incident at the Government Ashram School in Wankidi mandal center of Asifabad
district. Food poisoning occurred three times in a week at Maganur ZP High
School in Narayanpet district. On the 26th of this month, 29 students who ate
mid-day meal at the school fell ill.
The Telangana High Court has expressed its anger over these
incidents. If food poisoning occurs three times in a week at Maganur School? It
has reacted sharply saying, "Are the authorities sleeping?" It has
expressed its anger at the government saying, "But if children die?"

government has become alert. A key decision has been taken on the
implementation of the mid-day meal scheme. In the wake of a series of food
poisoning incidents, the government has decided to undertake special drives on
food quality. Officials will check the food before preparing it and after
cooking it. For this, special monitoring teams will be formed with teachers and
students. The committee members will inspect the rice, pulses, water,
vegetables and other equipment as per the rules. If it is not proper, it will
be replaced immediately.
State Director of School Education, EV Narasimha Reddy,
announced that steps will be taken to ensure that food committee members
consisting of teachers and students monitor the food in government schools and
gurukuls every day after the committee members have eaten. He visited the
Maganur Zilla Parishad High School on Wednesday (November 27). He checked the
mid-day meal, rice, vegetables and drinking water. He said that he had lunch
with the students and the food was good. He said that from now on, steps will
be taken to ensure that food is served to the students only after the committee
members have eaten. He said that there is no compromise on quality in the
mid-day meal scheme served to children. He said that quality food is being
provided.
